President Oekraïne wil van Tsjernobyl toeristische trekpleister maken

Het afgesloten, zo goed als verboden gebied rond de voormalige kerncentrale in Tsjernobyl moet een wetenschappelijke en een toeristische trekpleister worden, zei de Oekraïense president Zelensky bij de officiële presentatie van het nieuwe, gigantische omhulsel dat over de kernreactor is gebouwd.

"We moeten dit gebied nieuw leven geven", zei Zelensky verder. "Tsjernobyl moet aan de wereld worden getoond."

Brits-Amerikaanse serie

In 2018 bezochten meer dan 70.000 mensen met speciale excursies het verboden gebied, onder wie 50.000 buitenlanders. Dit jaar worden meer dan 100.000 bezoekers verwacht, mede aangewakkerd door de Brits-Amerikaanse serie die over de kernramp in 1986 is gemaakt.
